LOE Benchmarking Calculator
Compare your lease operating expense against Appalachian Basin medians, by asset type. Surface where the variance is and what the gap to the basin median is worth annually.
Methodology & sources
Basin medians used in this calculator are derived from public industry data, including:
- EIA Form EIA-23L (oil and gas annual operating cost data)
- State production reports — PA DEP, Ohio ODNR, WV OOG
- Industry research benchmarks — Wood Mackenzie, Enverus, Bloomberg Energy, Hart Energy
- Appalachian operator earnings transcripts (public E&P companies)
Medians shown represent operating cost ranges typical for late-life conventional verticals, mature Marcellus horizontals (3+ years), and mature Utica horizontals (3+ years). Newer wells in primary decline can run materially higher LOE/BOE due to lower gross production. Field water-handling intensity, gathering arrangements, and contractor mix drive most of the per-well variance.
Output is indicative, not engineering-grade. A real LOE diagnostic compares against peer comparables matched on asset age, water cut, depth, and operating area — not just basin-wide medians.
